A 550D TMT bar indicates a physical property of the steel bar's flexibility, breakability and elongation. It is relatively more ductile than the 500 TMT bar. Also, the number 550D indicates tensile strength, which a steel bar can withstand before a crack, a sign of permanent appearance on the steel bar.
A TMT bar of 550D is more suitable, as it allows high ductility and elongation up to 15%, in contrast to a TMT bar with tensile strength and toughness for withstanding capacity up to 500 MPa. Therefore, a TMT 550D is suitable for construction.
